What Be Good is

Be Good is a membership app. Your membership pays for using the app and for the right to choose, each month, a person who receives a coin from you.

A coin is a record inside the app. It is not a physical object, nothing is posted, and it has no cash value and cannot be exchanged, sold or transferred.

It is not a shop. You are not buying a coin, and you are not buying anything for yourself.

You may never be chosen

Coins are given by other members. Nobody is assigned to you, and nothing entitles you to receive anything.

You may go months without being chosen, and you may never be chosen at all. That is how Be Good works and is not a fault in the service.

Who can join

You must be 18 or older. You must give a first name that people can reasonably call you, and a working email address.

One person, one account. Accounts created to collect coins dishonestly will be closed, and any coins collected through them removed.

What other members see

Other members see your first name, your photo and the few lines you write about yourself. Nothing else, ever.

Your email address is visible only to you. We do not ask for your last name, your postal address or your phone number, and we do not hold them.

How a coin is created

A coin exists only because a member spent one of the choices their membership gives them. There is no other way for one to come into being, and no member can create, edit or add to their own count.

A coin arrives the moment it is given. Nothing is held back and nothing is delayed.

Your total is counted from the coins other people gave you.

Two things can take a coin away, and only these two. A coin whose payment was reversed - refunded or charged back - was never paid for, and it goes. So does a coin from an account we close for breaking these terms. If either happens we tell you, and we do not tell you who the coin came from.

Ending a membership is not one of them. A member who paid and then chose to stop paying gave a real gift, and it stays with the person who received it. Only money actually returned takes a coin back.

What is ours to decide

We decide when memberships go on sale. The app shows how many members have joined and the number we are aiming for, and that is a goal we are working towards - it is not a promise about a date. We may open later than that number, or earlier, or hold off for reasons of our own. Nothing is charged to anybody before we open.

We decide whether a prize draw is ever run again after one has been held. See the section on the prize draw above.

Neither of these lets us keep money for something you did not get. If you are ever charged, you have what you paid for from that moment: the right to choose who receives a coin from you, every month, for as long as your membership runs.

One coin a month, per person

A member can be chosen at most once in a calendar month. Once someone has been chosen, they cannot be chosen again until the next month.

This exists so that coins reach as many people as possible rather than gathering around a few.

The prize draw, and where we can post

Collecting five coins enters you in our prize draw automatically. There is nothing to fill in and nothing to send.

WHEN A DRAW HAPPENS. A draw is not held until 80 per cent of everyone registered with Be Good is holding five coins. That is deliberate, and it is there to protect you: a draw held among a handful of people would not be worth entering, and everybody still collecting would have been left out of it. It also means a draw may be a long way off, or may never happen at all.

ONE WINNER, WHO CHOOSES. Each draw has a single winner. The winner picks one prize - an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy, or 1,000 dollars paid to their bank account. Three prizes are listed; one is awarded.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR COINS. If you were entered in a draw, your coins return to zero once that draw has been held, whether or not you won, and you start collecting again from nothing. If you had not reached five coins and so were not entered, nothing is taken from you - your coins stay where they are and you carry on. Only an entry that was used is spent.

WHETHER THERE IS EVER ANOTHER ONE. After a draw has been held, whether another is ever run is ours alone to decide. We may decide there will be no further draws, and if we do we will say so in the app. Collecting coins does not entitle you to a draw.

WHERE A PRIZE CAN GO. Prizes, unlike coins, are real. We post to addresses in the fifty United States and the District of Columbia only, we do not use freight forwarders or mail forwarding services, and a payment by bank transfer is made only to an account at a United States institution. A member who lives outside the United States can collect coins and use every other part of Be Good, but cannot be awarded a prize.

You are asked where you live when you create your account, and you must answer. We tell you what it means before your account is created and again before you are charged. If you later change that answer, everything above applies from the moment you change it.

A prize is awarded only to a member whose email address has been confirmed, because we cannot send a prize to somebody we cannot reach. The full rules of the draw are published in the app and on our website, and anybody may read them without entering.

Payment, renewal and cancelling

Membership is billed through the app store you installed from, and renews until you cancel. Cancel any time from your store account; your membership runs to the end of the period you have paid for.

Once you have spent a choice, the coin is in the other person's collection and cannot be called back. Refunds are handled by the app store under its own policy.

Messages between members

A private chat opens only after someone receives your coin and taps the heart. Either person may block or report the other at any time.

Do not share your address, phone number, financial details or passwords in chat. Be Good will never ask you for them.

Behaviour

Be kind. Do not harass, threaten, deceive or impersonate anyone. Do not upload a photo that is not of you, or that is sexual, violent or hateful.

Every picture uploaded to Be Good is checked automatically and may also be looked at by a person afterwards. A picture can therefore be removed after it has already appeared. If that happens we tell you in the app and you may add another one.

We may hide content, suspend an account or close it where these terms are broken.

A membership is not an exception to these terms. If a member breaks them, we may suspend or close the account whether or not a membership is active.

Depending on how serious the breach is, we may act straight away, or let the period already paid for run to its end and stop the membership renewing.

Where we close an account straight away for a serious breach, the unused part of that period is not refunded, unless the law requires otherwise.

Closing your account

You can delete your account from Settings at any time. That removes your profile, your photo, the lines you wrote, and every coin you have been given.

THE COINS YOU HAVE COLLECTED ARE GONE. Not held, not recoverable, and not restored if you sign up again later - a new account starts at nothing, and any entry in a prize draw goes with the old one.

Coins you gave to other people stay with them, with your name taken off. They were chosen for those people and are not ours to take back.

If you held a membership we keep one short billing record, described in our privacy policy. If you never paid, we keep nothing.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
